Youth and ecotourism. A road trip towards the Future sustainability of natural areas

Ecotourism is considered by most scholars a sustainable alternative way of traveling in natural areas able to prevent and contrast the negative impact of mass tourism. According to some authors this form of tourism is particularly appreciated by the adult generations, while the youngsters are deemed to be less attracted by its features. The present chapter aims to highlight the importance of the diffusion of ecotourism among the young generations and to understand youngsters’ actual interest in this kind of tourism. After a review of studies that have investigated knowledge, motivations and practices concerning ecotourism among young tourists, the chapter will outline and discuss the possible strategies to promote ecotourism in this segment of the population
